Extremely Rare Photo The Cemetery And The Racecourse At Hong Kong, China 1866

Beautiful, Rare, Genuine, Frameable photo of The Cemetery and Racecourse at Hong Kong in 1866 published by the Illustrated London News. The Hong Kong Cemetery was opened in 1845 when Happy Valley was considered too far from town and too mosquito-ridden ever to be needed as building land. The first graves date back even earlier and were moved to Happy Valley in 1889 when Hong Kongs earliest cemetery in Wanchai was finally closed in 1889. The first monument found belongs to Lieutenant Benjamin Fox who died on 25th May, 1841 of wounds received when the British forces stormed the walls of Canton during the First Opium War.

Hong Kong Cemetery was the burial place for all the Protestant and Nonconformist dead for over one hundred years. The Cemetery is a beautiful, inspiring and peaceful place and more importantly it is a significant source of material for students of Hong Kongs heritage as well as those with a general interest particularly in the fields of history, sociology, genealogy and architecture. This is a rare colored detailed photo. The photo is finished off with a title cartouche. The photograph size is 8 1/2 X 11 1/4. This is part of the Kit Kapp Collection.

He was a very famous map collector, author, and cartographer. Many of these maps were priced by him prior to 2009.

These are priced for what they are a priceless antique collectible. All these maps will be for sale within the next few months. We guarantee their authenticity from the Kapp collection.

A few have his initials KK or KSK on them. Many of the maps have the research that Kapp did including where the maps came from, who the cartographer was, the Library of Congress Number, and other information highlighted on the back.

Kit has done the work for you. We do our best with pictures to show you the condition of each one.
