A group of four extremely rare jade "leafs" of an Islamic Prayer book with Quranic inscriptions that are. Calligraphy coupled with the floral motifs on the "cover" and "back" pages likely dates the piece to the Mughal Dynasty (1526- 1857).
The jades would have had a silk or leather string binding them together, and they would have been worn around the neck or tucked in a satchel. In natural light the jade has light greenish color, indoor lighting gives it a more off-white almost pinkish-tan appearance, I tried to capture both colors in the various pictures included in the listing. The approximate size each: 42mm x 28mm. Weight: 38 grams for the set of four pieces. The jades have some signs of wear, weathering, and russet inclusions or staining that are consistent with prolonged burial and /or exposure to the elements.
